Kelsie & Preston
June 24, 2016
PROPOSAL Location:
Stone State Park, Sioux City

Way back in May (of 2016), I took Kelsie's two sisters with me to go ring shopping. Her oldest sister lives further away, so she had to take a day to travel to Sioux City to join us. Of course Kelsie had her car damaged when she was parked at work and needed a ride to the auto shop. I had to decline to keep my plans with her sisters, and since I was trying to keep it a secret, I had to make up a bogus excuse. She was less than thrilled, and our proposal story began. What a great start! Kelsie has a tendency to be suspicious of my behavior, so I knew I had to be sneaky if I didn't want her to figure out my plans. I realized that I needed some help if I wanted to pull off the proposal without her knowing it was going to happen. So I devised a simple plan of deception. I chose a day that I wanted the proposal to happen. But instead of making plans with her, I asked one of her best friends to make plans with her instead. So on June 24, 2016 Kelsie had some important plans with one of her best friends, Alexis- not me (wink, wink). At about noon on the big day, Alexis called Kelsie and told her she had to unfortunately cancel. Suddenly Kelsie was free. I just happened to be free too. Eventually, Kelsie texted me to see what I was doing. I told her I was about to eat, and she suggested we go to Culver's. I figured it was probably the perfect place to go before a proposal, so I agreed. We followed that up by going to Stone State Park. Stone Park holds a significant place in our relationship as it was a part of one of my favorite dates we spent together. We both like the outdoors and it seemed like a nice place to go and be alone together. We sat down on a bench overlooking the trees and river below. I kept it simple. I told her why we were there: the place of our date, the thoughts I had that day, and the thoughts I've had since then. I told her how much she meant to me, and why I wanted to be with her for the rest of my life. I almost cried. She laughed. Don't worry. It was a cute "I can't believe this is happening" laugh. I got down on one knee. Then, using her full name, I asked her to marry me. And I was lucky enough for her to say yes!

The ring:
