ERWIN WINS SECOND STRAIGHT GUNDERSON'S CUP
(3/23/2008) - Dale Erwin won his second straight Siouxland Senior Open Wednesday, May 26, shooting 69 to add the 2008 Siouxland senior championship to his 2003 and 2007 titles.
Erwin's round of 69 led the field at Two Rivers Golf Club, winning him the Gunderson's Cup and Dale Mogren Memorial Plaque. Erwin finished three strokes ahead of runner-up and 2006 champion Tom Olson.
The Siouxland Senior Open, marking its 16th anniversary this year, is a tournament for golfers 50 and over to benefit for Senior Day Services, the Alzheimer's Association's Sioux City-based adult day service. First established in 1995, Senior Day Services is an activity-based program for Siouxland area older adults with cognitive and functional impairments including, but not restricted to, Alzheimer's disease. Senior Day Services provides these individuals with a safe, supervised, and social environment while offering respite to their caregivers. The service is provided weekdays 7 am 6 pm at the Association's headquarters at 420 Chambers in Sioux City.
Honorary chair and Central High alumnus Coach Ray Obermiller and special guest Coach Johnny Orr spoke about their own experiences as caregivers at an awards banquet held at Dakota Dunes Country Club.
